(a). Write hazards and their control measures in use of shearing and broaching machine. 23109

Ans.

Shearing machine is a machine with blades or rotatory disk powered or manually operated use for cutting metal plates, sheets and bars, it is used for cutting the clothes in textile industry.

Hazards in Shearing machines –

  • The unguarded dangerous moving outer blades
  • Unauthorized/Untrained operator.
  • Wearing loose clothes near shearing machine.
  • Lack of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Noise, Dust etc.

Control measures in Shearing machine –

  • Provide proper guard on moving blades.
  • Provide proper training to operator.
  • Don’t wear losses clothing near machine.
  • Provide and use personal protective equipment.
  • Provide proper ventilation and illumination.

Broaching machine is a machine used to cut long, narrow channels into the rock to free up the sides of large stone blocks. These machines can be self-propelling or powered by diesel or gasoline engines. Broaching machine consists a cutting edge by which broaching done.

Hazards in Broaching machine –

Ans.

Good home keeping is not only about cleaning, good home keeping means keeping work area clean, keeping tools/tackles in order, maintenance of business and proper waste management.

Good Home Keeping can promote safety because: -

  • Good Home keeping reduce the chances of accident due to Slip/Trip at workplace or anywhere.
  • It reduces the risk of fire.
  • It reduces the exposure to dust, vapors and germs.
  • It increases the efficiency of workforce and tools.
  • It reduces the property damages.
  • It improves the productivity.
  • Make workplace hygienic.
  • It increases the moral of workforce/people.

(d). What are the hazardous area classification?

Ans.

Hazardous area means where (i) Petroleum having FP below 65bC or any inflammable gas or vapor capable of ignition is likely to be present or where there is chance of explosion.

On the basis of level of risk there are three classification of hazardous area.

  1. ZONE 0
  2. ZONE 1
  3. ZONE 2
  • Zone 0 is the hazardous area where there is high chance of explosion or will explosion occur frequently.
  • Zone 1 is the hazardous area where explosion is atmosphere is likely to occur, in this atmosphere explosion can occur due to repair or leakage of fuel or chemical during maintenance work.
  • Zone 2 is the hazardous area where there is explosion in atmosphere is not likely or have low chances. The explosion will be for short period of time. The area will become hazardous only due to any accident.

(e). Write hazards and their control measures in forging shop.

Ans.

Forging shop are the place where forging operations are carried out, forging is a process in which metals such as steel can be converted into different shape manually or machine with hammer, in this process metals heated at high temperature and then hit by hammer to give shapes.  

Hazards in forging shop: -

  • Damaged Hammer/Machine
  • Hardened tool
  • Flying object
  • Improper tongs
  • Excessive heat/temperature
  • Unguarded revolving parts
  • Untrained/Unauthorized person
  • Lack of PPEs
  • Poor House-keeping

Control Measure in foraging shop: -

  • Avoid using damaged hammer/machine
  • Don’t use hardened tools
  • Use proper tongs
  • Provide guards on revolving parts.
  • Provide proper training
  • Provide PPEs
  • Maintain good house-keeping

(f). Write hazards and their control measures in “IT” industry

Ans.

Hazards in IT Industry are: -

  • Ergonomic hazards -
  • Musculoskeletal Disorder
  • Electrical Hazards
  • Physical Hazards
  • Radiation Hazards
  • Fire Hazards
  • Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)      

Control measures in IT Industry: -        

  • Don’t sit on chair continuously for long period of time, take test and follow correct sitting posture.
  • All electrical equipment’s must be routed through ELCB and electrical inspection, training must be done frequently.          
  • Keep access/egress free from abstracts.
  • Keep floor clean and dry.
  • Keep at least distance of 40-76 CM from your computer screen.
  • Maintain good housekeeping, don’t keep combustible material in office area, don’t keep flammable material in office area and provide Fire Extinguishers.

(g). Write hazards and their control measures in welding operation.

Ans.

Welding operation is a hot work because it produces heat, spark, flame and light.

Hazards in welding operation: -

  • Work without valid work permit
  • Untrained and unexperienced person
  • Welding vapors, fumes & Spark
  • Welding operation without fire protection
  • Damaged welding machine
  • Poor housekeeping
  • UV radiation
  • Fire & explosions
  • Lack of PPEs

Control measures for welding operation: -

  • No work should be carried out without Valid work permit
  • Welding operation must be done by trained and experienced person
  • Provide adequate PPEs – Face shield, apron, mask, welding hamlet, safety shoes.
  • Provide welding booth with proper ventilation system
  • Welding machine must be inspected
  • Maintain good housekeeping
  • Keep fire extinguisher at work location.
