Introduction:

Working inside confined space is very risky job due to the hazardous nature of confined space, confined space is a risk space due to limited space for entry/exit, lack of oxygen or oxygen enrichment, presence of toxic or flammable gases, while working in confined space it is mandatory to develop a rescue plan to handle & reduce the risk of life loss.

What is Rescue Plan:

Rescue Plan is a set of procedures and planning to react and evacuate people safely in case of emergency to prevent the loss of life.

Contents of Confined Space Rescue Plan:

Details of complete rescue team:

Only competent and authorized person can be a part of rescue team, organize a group of rescue team to study the confined space and create a rescue plan according to the nature of confined space.

Identification of Confined Space:

Confined Space must be clearly marked for proper identification and preparation of rescue plan.

Number of entry/exits.

Total numbers of entry/exit points to me mentioned in rescue plan.

Details of internal structure:

In confined space may be there any structure, study in details about the internal structure it will help in rescue, because internal structure can create obstruction.

Required Rescue Equipments:

Choose right rescue equipment as per confined space structure or job scope, rescue equipment will depends on number of person working inside, Presence of toxic gases, oxygen & flammable vapors, location of confined space, height & depth of confined space.

Rescue Equipments:

Maximum No of person allowed inside confined space:

Only limited number of people can work inside confined space, no of allowed person will decide as per activity inside confined space and oxygen.

Communication tools:

Communication tools must be available at confined space for communication in case of emergency and must be mentioned in Rescue Plan.

Role & Responsibilities:

Roles & Responsibilities of individuals should me mentioned to avoid conflict and miss communication during emergency, such as role of stand by man, fire watch, supervisor, workers and rescue team.

Escape plan/route:

A clear route to escape in case of emergency must be attached with rescue plan and to be shared with team, escape route will help to reach assembly area safely.

Safety Equipments & Safe assembly area:

Details of safety/emergency equipment such as nearest safety shower, eye wash, manual call point & assembly area must be identified and mentioned in the rescue plan.

Emergency contact details:

Rescue drill or mock drill:

After completion rescue plan, rescue plan must be practiced  for ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of rescue plan.
