Risk Assessment is a process and safety documentation activity in which by following five steps any task/work can be analyzed to identify the potential hazards and their appropriate safety co0ntrol measures to remove and minimize the risk of harm by hazards at any workplace.

Risk Assessment can be completed in Five steps, following are the five steps of risk assessment: -

  1. Identify the Risk or Hazard.
  2. Decide who might be harmed & how.
  3. Analyze/Evaluate the risk.
  4. Record the findings of assessment.
  5. Review and update when required.

What is risk assessment and its steps 

  1. Identify the Risk or Hazard.

Visit your workplace and find anything which can cause harm to workers. (Think about potential hazards)

How to identify hazards at workplace: -?

  • Visit work place with supervisor and working team.
  • Know the process of each activity.
  • Read previous risk assessment.
  • Read the safety inspection checklist of all equipment.
  • Talk with workers what they think about the hazards.
  • Check previous accident, incident, near miss and first aid records.

 

      2. Decide who might be harmed & how.

After you identified the potential hazard think how and whom the hazards can harm, decide the impact and possibilities of hazards you have identified.

Think on: -

  • Who can be harmed.
  • How peoples can be harmed.
  • Impact of hazards.
  • Chances of hazard occurrence.

      3.Analyze/Evaluate the risk.

Check what already you are doing to control the hazards, is it adequate or you need to apply additional control measures.

If additional control measures required to control the hazards, then decide on additional practicable control measures.

 

     4. Record the findings of assessment.

Record your all finding in risk assessment form, findings can be used for training and for educating your employees.

 

      5. Review and update when required.

Risk assessment must be reviewed to check that the additional control measures is effective or not, means hazards are controlled or not.

Risk assessment also must be reviewed and update on: -

  • Introducing new equipment at workplace.
  • Change in work process.
  • Change in staff.
  • Change in climate.
  • After any accident/incident.
